Game 2 stats and MVP voting

Some observations about Game 2:

* Horsemen had a clear advantage on boards/blocks and a slightly better shooting percentage.
* Phil and Patrick carried the Heroes on the offensive end.
* Louis shot a game high 34 shots, but only had an 18% shooting percentage. At 19.2% career, it might be time for Louis to log in a few extra minutes on the courts.
* Nick lost a step on offense, but made up for it with 3 steals and 3 assists.
* Dan W. and Rob were ice cold from the field (combined 0 for 29) but showed tenacity on defense.
* Neal had a solid all around game with 26 pts and 25 boards.
* Brian showed ferocity on the boards, but was passive on offense.
* Powers led the point, but was cold on his outside shot. 3 steals.

and now the stats. vote for Game 2 MVP below:

Game 1 MVP - Nick

the masses have spoken and Nick is Game 1 MVP. Phil got a couple votes for his high point total and steals, but 58% shooting percentage is too good to ignore. congrats, nick!

game 2 tonight at 8pm. bring 10 bucks.

game 1 stats

it's hard to put into words how much i enjoyed watching the game tapes and tallying stats. soak in these numbers and check back in a day or two for MVP voting (no voting for yourself).

side note: i only kept stats up until 60pts. because the tape didn't make it until the end of the 80pt. game.

GAME 1 - highlight film and post-game analysis

watch the greatest moments from game 1:

after watching game 1 tape, here are a few observations:

Louis - strong on the boards, needs to develop an inside game
Dan/Rob - need to shoot more
Phil - started dead cold, finished with a fierce offensive assault. tied for lead on steals
Patrick - not much of an offensive threat, but killer on boards, steals/assists/blocks

Nick - game's leading scorer and strong rebounder, invisible on steals/assists/blocks
John - great penetration, low shot percentage
Neal - rebound/assist/blocks leader, weak shot percentage
Kevin - strong inside presence and assists, needs to shoot more

pain / joy

i am suffering today, yet i also feel fantastic. props to patrick for pulling together the perfect gym. tonight i begin tallying stats...expect them up in a day or two.

in the meantime we should think about permanent teams. i made a couple slight adjustments:

TEAM 1

TEAM 2

John

Rob

Nick

Patrick

Kevin

Dan W.

Phil

Neal

Louis

Dan P./Brian F.

if anyone has a better idea for teams, post them in comments and we'll do a re-vote.

Great playing last night. exhaustion aside, i thought we all brought our game....kev's no-look reverse finger roll, dan's driving hook layup, john's penetration, nick's monster presence down low. it's going to be fun to look at the numbers.

Day of MAMBA

after months of waiting and years of little to no physical activity, day of MAMBA is finally upon us. in preparation for the big day, i went to sports authority and bought a red headband. the headband guards against sweat in the eyes, but i also believe the red symbolizes blood and will strike fear in my opponents, at least on a subconscious level. these little tactics make all the difference.

if you didn't watch the video in my previous post, watch it now. it will inspire you to be great. if you watched the video and still don't feel great, i leave you with a picture of the best NBA player who ever played the game:

it's no mystery who this is - Charles Oakley, #34. we should all strive to be like oakley and i believe we WILL be after a few MAMBA games. i believe we all have the potential to rebound like him, shoot like him, defend like him, and even look like him. we wouldn't be playing tonight if we didn't want to be Charles Oakley.

8:00pm
37-15 13th street @ PS111

"Oh well, that's basketball. It used to be basketball. I don't know what it is now."
- -Oakley, on the flagrant foul he was assessed for flattening the Nets' Kenyon Martin.
